What is Alberta Steel Manufacturers?
Alberta Steel Manufacturers members first came together in December 2010 under a shared belief that fabricated structural steel was being purchased from non‐domestic suppliers based on incorrect assumptions. It was Alberta Steel Manufacturers opinion that Alberta suppliers and their clients were missing significant opportunities for efficiencies and project innovation in design and construction which could be achieved through greater collaboration.
What does Alberta Steel Manufacturers Do?
Alberta Steel Manufacturers provides a vehicle for multi‐stakeholder
dialogue between suppliers, owners and others to explore how to
strengthen and improve supply chains. A key goal is to create a business
environment that is collaborative, proactive, learning based and
innovative – one that benefits everyone. Maintaining ongoing
communication will help suppliers stay abreast of and fulfill client
needs. It is crucial to share information about how Alberta suppliers
can add value to and reduce risk on Canadian industrial construction

ASM founded Dec 14 2010 with a vision for an improved industry. Exactly one year later, ASM held its 1st meeting with the Construction Owners Association of Alberta. ASM has subsequently presented at the National Buyer/Seller Forum (now the Canadian Energy Supply Chain Forum) main stage in Edmonton in 2012 and again at the National Supply Chain Forum in Calgary in 2013 as a breakout session.
The key industries represented are the Structural Steel & Pipe Fabrication, Pressure Vessel and recently, the Energy related Modular Manufacturing industry has joined the ASM ranks.
Messaging and awareness with ASM’s primary customer, the Construction Owners Assoc. of Alberta (COAA) continues to grow and improve as a result of above events and ASM’s second presentation to the COAA board in Dec 2013 .
Specifically, ASM’s improvement in key areas, ability to accommodate the multiple project options and ASM’s proven and unique value is resonating well with the COAA and its members. A partnership between COAA and ASM on a Modular Manufacturing best practice committee is expected to strengthen this relationship further and bring more value to local fabricators and to their customers.
